#282RS 2ND CUT COTTON LINTER
When in doubt, choose this popular grade of cotton linter. It's a fine choice for both basic sheet formation & sculptural papermaking. It has been refined enough to form a fairly stiff sheet after rehydrating in your blender or mixer. The easiest pulp to use, low shrinkage - dries flat. Responds well to beating in a hollander. White.
Recommended for beginners.

#282R 2ND CUT COTTON LINTER
This is a less processed version of the 282RS 2nd cut cotton linter. The fibers are longer and softer so it can withstand more beating to make a good crisp sheet of fine cotton paper. It is a good choice for sculptural papermaking, rehydrated or with minor amounts of beating. A few minutes in a hollander beater evens it out. White in color.

#290 COTTON LINTER
This mill-run grade is a mixture of 1st & 2nd cut linters, with longer fibers than our 2nd cut linters. It processes more easily than a pure 1st cut, & is a good choice for better quality papers which require a longer fiber. We do not recommend using the #290 linter without further processing in a hollander beater. In a blender it will make somewhat lumpy paper. White in color

For thin Oriental style sheets of paper, Abaca must be further beaten in a hollander beater with Formation Aid added to the vat. Sheets approx.: 24" x 32". Wgt: 8 - 12 oz. SODA ASH Sodium Carbonate - Na2CO3
Soda Ash is the most common chemical used for cooking fibers and is less harsh in its effects than caustic soda. Soda Ash should be used at a ratio of 18 - 20 grams per 100 grams of dry fiber (or 1 tbs. per 1/4lb). After cooking, most fibers can be beaten by hand - try our Hand Beating Stick. Please exercise caution - wear protective gloves & goggles. See Plant Fibers for Papermaking.

READY-TO-USE PULP
Our Ready-To-Use pulps are processed in our Hollander Beater to your specifications. Each 5 gallon pail contains one beater load, approx. 2 lbs. of dry fiber. Ready-To-Use Pulps are ideal for large quantities of pulp for teaching, or when a Hollander Beater is unavailable to you. A well beaten pulp allows the fibers to create more hydrogen bond sites which results in a stronger paper. We drain off any excess water, so the pulp is shipped to you in a very concentrated form - just add water and use. For best results, use your pulp immediately. or freeze - unused pulp will keep indefinitely if frozen. Refrigeration or the addition of isopropyl alcohol will help ward off fermentation. We can add Sizing or Methyl Cellulose to the Ready-To-Use mix, at your request. We also make overbeaten Ready-To-Use Pulp for pulp painting. Please specify pulp & the beating type you prefer. Weight per 5 gallon pail is approximately 30 lbs. Shipping via UPS only. Sorry, no U.S. Postal Service available for 5 gallon pails. Please let us know your needs as far in advance as possible - some periods are very busy for us!!
